"Stomp got Stomped by Stomp"..

Stomp, the online citizen portal for The Singapore Press Holdings, has admitted that a photo showing the MRT moving with its doors open is a fake.  Interestingly, the online citizen who posted the photo was found to be Stomp's own content producer. She is now an ex-content producer as Stomp has sacked her for lying that she took the photo, found to be a fake and from an unknown Twitter post. Wrote The Straits Times ,  STOMP would like to apologise for the posting on June 20, supposedly showing an SMRT train that left Lakeside station with one set of doors open. The report, submitted by a STOMP content producer, has been found to be fabricated. The content producer, Ms Samantha Ann Francis, had submitted the photo to STOMP, claiming that she had taken it when she was at Lakeside MRT Station at 10.15pm on June 19. Following investigations by our staff, Ms Francis has admitted that she had in fact taken the photo off a posting on Twitter. The original tweet has si...

Ah Lian top hit - "Why scold me, Auntie?" (to the tune of So Call Me Baby)

A girl, which social media described as the Ah Lian of the week, gave up her seat on the MRT to an Auntie, and instead of being thanked, this Ah Lian was screamed at. (Video of fight after the lyrics.) So I dedicated this lyrics to that unknown Ah Lian.. Sung to the tune of Carly Ray Jepsen "Call Me Baby" and lots of Singlish.  I threw my ass of my seat,  Don't ask me, you never say. I looked at you scared you fall, and now you scold me everytime... I trade my sit just to stand,  MRT seats very ex siah.. I wasn't looking for this,  but now you're in my face. Your stare was scary, Yellow shirt, with saliva spitting. Hot train, air con not blowing,  Why you think you can shout at me.... {Chorus}  Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy,  But here is my seating,  why scold me, Auntie? It's hard to look right,  at you Auntie, but here is my seating,  why scold me, Auntie? An...

Channel NewsAsia says kidnapped Singaporean in Egypt was taken to dessert

The screenshot below is spreading its round on Facebook today. Screenshot taken by a Facebook user. It seems the Egyptian kidnappers, after throwing punches at the kidnapped Singaporean, were "kind" enough to bring their hostage to dessert. instead of dumping him in the desert. The hostage, Vincent Toh, was leading a tour group in Egypt and "volunteered" to be taken hostage when his group was attacked by armed men .

Guess who designed that iconic Soy Sauce bottle?

The New York Times has discovered the designer who made the iconic soy sauce bottle. Wrote The New York Times , "It took three years for Ekuan and his team to arrive at the dispenser’s transparent teardrop shape. More than 100 prototypes were tested in the making of its innovative, dripless spout (based on a teapot’s, but inverted). The design proved to be an ideal ambassador. With its imperial red cap and industrial materials (glass and plastic), it helped timeless Japanese design values — elegance, simplicity and supreme functionality — infiltrate kitchens around the world." Something you can score in Trivial Pursuit.

In 1994, we asked "What is the Internet?"

I came across this via Twitter about morning show host asking to explain the Internet. Email was also known as Internet address. Today, the Internet is so prevalent that we have it even in out mobile phone. My son, today, expects the Internet to be there whenever he touches the iPad. This is so he can watch his favourite Transformer video on Youtube. We have come so far, Internet...

Thieves in Malaysia steal an ATM

On the rare occasion of reading The Straits Times on a Saturday, I came across this rather amusing news of how an ATM was stolen from the Malaysia Subang train station in 3 minutes.  It has been shared on Facebook and retweeted on Twitter couple of times, so I decided to put it up in the blog here for immortality or as long as Google keeps blogspot alive.  One friend commented, "And it was done in 3 minutes! How on earth could they do that? A simple ATM transaction would take longer than that."  My reply was that the bank should hire the thieves to speed up the transaction time.

Dutch or German body or both - The Straits Times can't decide

Take a look at the article above. It says "German man falls off Skypark at Marina Bay Sands". Yet on the right, in the headline, says it is a Dutch man. The photo caption also says the body belongs to a Dutch man. So, was it a German man or Dutch man who fell off or there were two falling off Skypark at Marina Bay Sands. Also, by saying that the German man fell off the Skypark, does this mean that the Skypark is very unsafe as you can fall off from the 56 stories at any time?

Charly T's Fan Club Launched! Fans get 20% off!

Looking to bring your father somewhere this Father's Day?  Join the Charly T's Fan Club at http://fanclub.sg/charlytssg and get 20% off a la carte items with PayPal. Charly T's is at NOMU, besides Cathy building, and Katong I12. http://yumyumformytumtum.com  wrote, "Charly T’s love for Rotisserie Chicken was first conceived in Hamburg, where he grew up in. His signature dish comes in 4 flavours, priced at $13-$15 for a quarter chicken with 2 sides, $24-$27 for half a chicken with 3 sides and $42-$46 for a whole chicken with 4 sides. In line with its new outlet opening, Charly T’s has conceptualized 2 new flavours (Black Pepper and Kansas City BBQ), adding on to the previous 2 (Original and Kampong).  Amongst the differing flavours, I felt that the main difference lies in the chicken skin rather than the meat, where the infusion of flavours from the marinate is most apparent, especially since the chickens are marinated for a whooping 13 hours before being ...

Editor-in-Chief "blacklisted" by Bank Negara for RM0.05 owed to cancelled HSBC credit card

The Editor-in-Chief of CardsNow! & PassAgeNow! magazines. Fredy Yiap, has found himself "blacklisted" by Bank Negara, Malaysia's Central Bank, because of cards which HSBC, MBF/Ambank and Eon (now Hong Leong Bank) call centers failed to "cancelled". HSBC even upgraded Fredy's card status even when he called to cancel that particular card. Wrote Fredy on his Facebook Profile, "Never have I so pissed with cardians!! I am now in the blacklist of Bank Negara because of these banks:- 1) HSBC (Amount owed : RM 0.05) They issued me a Visa Platinum in 2008/2009, I didn't like it and cancelled it. Few months later, they upgraded my "cancelled" Visa Platinum to Signature card, and during that process, left a rounding up 5 cents in the account. The customer service said it might take weeks to months to reverse that big deal RM 0.05 OUT! 2) MBf/Ambank (Amount owed : RM 50.00) When the 1st World card was out in Malaysia, MBf's President J...

QR code killed the movie tickets..

In the first three seconds of the trailer above, the boy asked what are movie tickets as piracy killed cinemas and that killed the movie tickets. But piracy may not have killed movie tickets, QR Codes did. This is the QR Code ticket from GSC  android app. Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) in Malaysia has released their android app which allows you to purchase movie tickets on your smart phone.  Besides the obvious that you can skip the queue when you purchase it on the phone, you do not need to even bother with the movie tickets. All you need is to get this QR code scanned upon entry, you are in.  The lack of holding a physical ticket, however, can be a little uneasy, especially when you have seen movies for many years with a ticket in your hand. While mobile is cool, GSC should look at adding some social elements where you can share the movie you just watched or even buy tickets for your friends.

Tips to optimise mobile data usage with Singtel reduced cap

Many have voiced their disapproval of Singtel new reduced mobile data cap when the telco announced the launch of its 4G network.  http://superadrianme.com  has a good write-up on the launch. Here are some tips for your consideration to optimise mobile data usage with the reduced data cap. Tip 1: Monitor your data usage There are many apps out there that will help you monitor your data usage.  For iOS and Android users, just search "monitor data" and you can find tons of free apps. Those on the new Ice-Cream Sandwich (ICS) Android version will find that this latest OS comes with a in-built data monitor app, under settings, that also provide alerts when you are about to reach certain cap levels.  By monitoring your data usage, you will be able to identify which of the apps uses the most data and thus you can either reduce using that app or remove it completely.  Tip 2: Keep a look out for data compression app. So far, I have ...
