The recent walkabout by the opposition parties, Singapore People's Party and Reform Party, in the Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC has raised eyebrows that the two main form an alliance to take on the ruling party from the People Action’s Party.
I thought it would be interesting to check and share of their activities on Facebook.
There are other forms of social networking sites out there, but I am narrowing it down to Facebook as it seems to be popular with many of my clients.
I will doing a comparison with Singapore People's Party’s Mr Chiam See Tong, Reform Party’s Kenneth Jeyaretnam, People’s Action Party Mdm Josephine Teo and Mr Zainudin Nordin as all four have been mentioned recently in the press.
So if Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC is to be determined by Facebook, the winner will most likely be..
Not Singapore People's Party’s Mr Chiam See Tong.
Based on Facebook search, there is a profile and a fanpage of Mr Chiam See Tong. Both, however, seem not to be the official profile and fanpage set up by Mr Chiam as both leads to a blogspot site set up with a vendetta against Mr Chiam.
Other than that, there don’t seem to be any other results on Mr Chiam.
(Suggestion: SDP should get someone to start creating the official profile for Mr Chiam soon if they would to reach out to voters through Facebook.)
Based on the number of friends alone, Mdm Josephine Teo would be third from bottom with 891 friends. Her last active post was in March 4, 2010, where she shared an article via notes and her wall is open for all to see.
(Suggestion: Mdm Josephine Teo should get a vanity url for her profile to make it easier for her fans/friends to search for her on Facebook. Maybe it would be best to set up a fan page instead to separate personal and official.)
Reform Party’s Mr Kenneth Jeyaretnam will come in second with 1,949 friends. However, his wall is closed and only opened to friends so I can’t comment much. He has a vanity URL so that’s a plus point and he easy to search via Facebook.
(Suggestion: A Fan Page would be great to separate personal and official postings.)
The winner of Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC is Mr Zainudin Nordin as he has a personal page with 4,155 friends and a fan page of 2,487 fans.
Both the personal page and fan page are quite active with status updates and photo postings.
(Suggestion: Not much to suggest as Mr Zainudin Nordin has separated the personal and official. Maybe he might want to create a vanity url for the fanpage as he is way above the 25 fans mark.)

Somehow Mr Chaim being in SDP still stuck in my mind though he left like 1996.
His friends on both of his personal page and fan page are mostly from the union members of the following :

I was only looking at numbers and did not go into detail into where the friends came for.
Saying that, because Mr Zainudin Nordin has set up a fan page and profile proper, his fans, even if they came from the unions, have something to be a fan or friend of. Mr Zainudin has also responded to updates too.
As such, shouldn't Mr Chiam or somebody set up a proper profile or fan page that real fans can support?
