Why I didn’t choose Facebook.com/aaronkoh!

(Update: I was told FB treat facebook.com/aaronkoh and facebook.com/aaron.koh the same.

The gist of this post is to highlight whether having facebook.com/yourname is a good or bad thing especially now that is googable.)

Many of you might have jumped onto the Facebook vanity bandwagon this afternoon by booking your name at Facebook. I took facebook.com/socialpr instead.

Ok I was late. There was only facebook.com/aaron.koh left when I tried.

However, somebody at aaron.koh@gmail.com must be having missed emails because I keep getting it into my aaronkoh gmail account. There could be a possibility that same mixed up might happen. So I chose facebook.com/socialpr.

Hopefully, somebody who is looking for social pr can across this blog.

There are some concerns about having facebook.com/aaronkoh though.

I would say if your friends have to google search your name to find your Facebook page, I would question if they are really friends.

This means you are going to get total strangers googling their name to see if there are someone out there that has his/her name.

That’s one concern.

However, by having a facebook.com/socialpr, it shows how effective a social PR person I am by cornering the social PR search keywords in Google.

For some strange reasons, I couldn’t find facebook.com/aaronkoh.

No, someone has not chosen facebook.com/aaronkoh yet. Still available. But it makes sense if you don't want it first in google, to choose something else.

How UOB's Paper Trail Amplifies IT Greatest Security Threat

UOB required you to do everything on paper. If you want to change your mobile number for your banking account with them or for your credit card, you need to fill up a form. Yet, this paper trail represented a potential security fail for the bank - Human Error. So a bitcoin expert walked into UOB to open a bank account. The bank employee had to print a form from a online pdf document to fill in this bitcoin expert's particulars. Singapore radio personality in "hot soup" for reporting train delays based on Tweets?

Update - Hossan Leong has commented on this post to say " I'm not in trouble pls don't blow this out of proportion. Let it rest. It's getting silly. Thank you for your love and concern and I apologize for any misunderstanding." ~  Hossan Leong. Hossan Leong, a Singapore radio personality for The Gold Breakfast Show on Gold 90.5, was censured today for reporting on train delays on the Circle Line because he based the information on Tweets, rather than waiting for the official reports from the Circle Line operator, SMRT.  It is, however, unknown if the "warning" came from Mediacorp producers or SMRT.
