Congratulations to the Creative Commons Singapore team who has work  “now been integrated into the Creative Commons licensing process ”. Said the Creative Commons Singapore blog, “To license your own work (say your blog text or a photo you have taken) under a Singapore-specific Creative Commons license go to http://creativecommons.org/license/ to choose the appropriate license (just make sure you choose “Singapore” as your jurisdiction). After answering a couple of simple questions about the types of uses that you wish to allow, the website will give you some code that you can copy and paste into the webpage where your content lies.”. Congrats Guys! I hereby declare this blog as Attribution-Non-Commercial-Share Alike 3.0 Singapore . Technorati Tags: Creative Commons Singapore

Glue that binds Yahoo?

Have you seen Y!Glue at http://glue.yahoo.com ? It could be Yahoo’s answer to Google. As the name implies, it actually glues all the search results, from news to wikipedia entry, from YouTube videos to photos in a single page. Unfortunately it is in Beta, I mean really Beta, and only certain keywords apply.

What is your inner office worker desire?

20TwentyPR came up with this simple viral video for Noise Singapore. Can’t say much for the PR agency’s website though. Unfortunately, most of noise that Singaporeans are making lately is about how two town councils risk losing SGD16million due to their investment in Minibonds from Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch.

Corporate Video of the Day

Found this video by following Gord Weisflock . Actually, I found the Kodak corporate blog from one of Gord’s Twit. So when was the last time you heard Kodak? Here’s an interesting video from Kodak to promote a career in the print communications industry online. Its an irony to put print and online in a single sentence, but it is all about getting the message out there.

Great tips on getting customer references for your clients!

Are your clients complaining about how hard it is to get references from their customers? April Dunford of Rocket Watcher blog has some tips on how they can overcome this. But most importantly, April also suggests that once your client gets the ok, go direct to video. April wrote, Always ask for Video - Video is customer reference GOLD.  Having a customer give a well-articulated couple of sentences about why they chose your product or what the product has helped them do with their business (preferably both!) is simply much more powerful than written case study or quote could ever be.  I once got a CIO of a major account to say that his company was going to save "One million dollars a day" using our software.  Every sales rep on the team used that clip on every sales call for over a year.  That video was completely priceless.  Video used to be an expensive undertaking that cost thousands of dollars for a camera crew.  Now you can buy a high quality HD video camera f

My executive channels of New Media

(This is dedicated to Kate212 who send me a question on my role in New Media) It took me awhile to define the various channels for New Media and after many revisions, I may have finally narrowed them down. First, there is the online awareness channel that is made up of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing . The next channel I have developed is digital content. This consist of creating vidcast, podcasts and digital photography. Yes, they will be put online for sharing but I am on the current crusade to push these content on a social media release format which can be used as that new press release or pitch to the media and bloggers. Interestingly, there have been an increase in demand for vidcasting recently as many are looking at the visuals to tell the story. The job includes scripting, storyboard, the recording itself and the final editing. The third channel looks at the social networking sites to increase the awareness of the brand. Usually, B2B cu

Your Social Media Release Tip #1: Put captions in your photographs

OK. You have signed up for pitchengine.com to create your first social media release. Cutting and pasting the standard press release sounds very easy, but there could be improvement. Let me start with your photographs. One of the advantage of the Social Media Release format is that you are allowed to “paste” the photos of your spokesperson on the release. One thing I realised is that there can be at least two to three spokesperson in your press release. One being the corporate spokesperson and the other could be external spokesperson. As a PR agency, your are most likely to put up the photo of your client’s spokesperson. It should be a no-brainer that if the release came from company ABC, the photo attached in the social media release should be of spokesperson from company ABC. However, without a caption in your photo to highlight who the person is in the photo, some might wonder who he or she is. You don’t need photoshop to enter the captions. Use paint

How Obama won the US Presidency with the Internet

During the last Malaysia elections, the Internet was touted as the reason why the opposition won more seats than in previous elections. Jeff Ooi was also touted as the first blogger-politician. I was reading CNN today and found a few interesting quotes from key strategists. “The key ingredient was Obama’s ability to built a campaign from the bottom up,” said Donna Brazile, CNN contributor/Democratic strategist. “Using technology, he called on ordinary citizens to believe that together they could turn the page. “Second, the campaign used technology to connect people where they lived. At every event, he reached out to citizens to talk to one another and work towards a common purpose.” Even a Republican strategist commented on Obama’s use of the “tubes”. “Obama won because he engaged and mobilised young voters through the use of social networking platforms,” said Leslie Sanchez, CNN contributor/Republican strategist. " “Maximised fundraising and voter contact techniques

Google Adwords and PR got to do with it?

As part of the Digital @wareness team, we gotten a few requests for Google Adwords from clients recently. It seem advertising on Adwords have become a popular alternative at times of credit crisis these days. So what does Public Relations got to do with Google Adwords? First, there is the analysing of the websites to find out what keywords for the Adwords. This is done with Google Adwords tool. Sometimes, the suggested keywords do not match the clients’ overall messaging. Hence, that is when the Public Relations side of things come into play. You have to consult with the client on what keywords to use in the overall messaging and to make that constant in the site. After you have analyse the keywords, the next thing clients would ask is cost estimation of using selected keywords for adwords. This is also the easy part with Google inbuilt sandbox. The next two parts of Google Adwords is where I feel is often neglected by those looking to use Adwords. That’s the Ad
