I was asked by an overseas client to check out the circulation rate of SPH newspapers for a project. Interestingly, SPH have been showing the daily average SPH newspaper circulation for the month of August since 2006. The PR community would love this figures for their clients.   Aug-06 Aug-07 Aug-08 Aug-09 Aug 06 to Aug 09 Tamil Murasu 10,200 11,700 14,400 14,100 38% The Business Times 30,400 34,500 35,700 38,300 26% Shin Min Daily 122,600 116,600 139,600 136,500 11% Berita Harihan 62,500 61,800 62,000 60,900 -3% The Straits Times 388,500 387,800 389,300 374,500 -4% Lianhe ZaoBao 183,000 174,500 176,000

Viewers' Choice 2009 prediction

Viewers’ Choice 2009 is on again and the winners for this year is quite predictable, especially for the local category. Obvious Local Winner: Funeral by MCYS There is no doubt that Funeral by the late director Yasmin Ahmad will win Viewer’s Choice 2009 as it is definitely the viewers’ choice. Underdogs Local Winners: Tiger Beer’s Guys How can a beer ad not win viewer’s choice? Scores high for the special effect but the final element of beer goggles making you see your best bud as an attractive lady is kind of a turn-off. Sure Win International TV Commercial – Walk in Fridge Heineken My sure winner is Heineken Beer ad about the walk in fridge. It spoofs every women’s dream of a walk in closet. The other ads don’t create that recall value as this ad. Underdogs International Winner: Cadbury Chocolate – Eyebrows How can you say no to kids with amazing eyebrows? I say Cadbury Eyebrows is quite entertaining and hilarious for an ad. To find out how to vote, cli

Alexa Alexa On The Wall, Which SG Ministry Website Has The Highest Alexa Ranking Of Them All?

The respective Singapore agencies might not be interested in SEO, but I found the Alexa traffic rank listing of the various Singapore Ministry website at Singapore Short Stories blog rather interesting. I have added the Google linkbacks information below. While the Ministry of Manpower gets the most visitors as reflected by the Alexa rankings, the Ministry of Health gets the most linkbacks. The Ministry website with the least linkbacks belongs to Ministry of Transport and Ministry of National Development. I thought MOH high linkbacks were probably due to the Minister blogging but it seems many other health agencies link back to this ministry especially on the H1N1 alerts. In comparison, I have listed the Alexa rankings and the linkbacks of the popular bloggers in Singapore at the bottom of the list. If MrBrown was a minister, he would fall somewhere between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports. Singapore Ministries 1) M

Crowdsview Search Engine for Singapore-Only Social Media Sites

The biggest problem of most social media search engines is that they search the World Wide Web. But what if your account is only Singapore based? Sorting out the social media sites from Singapore alone can be a daunting task. I found a new search engine called Crowdsview dedicated to Singapore-Only Social Media Sites which seemed to have been just release by the Singapore team at Crowdsis. The search engine seems to be still in the infancy page but the potential looks great. For example, if one were to do a search on Pastor Ronny Tan, who apologised for his comments on Buddhism that was aired and shared on YouTube, it can be seen that the discussion in the forums started as early as Feb 04, 2009 with 34 mentions of the Pastor.   Crowdsview can be found here .

socialpr@facebook.com email coming soon?

You woke up this morning to a new Facebook homepage and this seems to be a start of many new beginnings. One such beginning is Project Titan which Facebook will be introducing a webmail service for its users. According to Techcrunch, the username of this Facebook email account will be based on your vanity url. Wrote Techcrunch , But now Facebook is getting itself back in the game. And if the details we’ve heard are accurate, Project Titan, or whatever it’s called when it launches, may be the kind of product people flock to. First, our understanding is that there will be full POP/IMAP support, meaning users can access the account other than through Facebook itself. Your email account name will be your vanity url – vanityurl@facebook.com . Will this be a Gmail killer? Maybe not, but other free email services like Yahoo and Hotmail would  feel the heat from a Facebook webmail system with a direct link to largest social networking site.
