<Media Release> Refinery Media first in Asia to ink deal with Foursquare

(Disclaimer: Refinery Media is a client of SocialPR.)

Supermodelme.TVRefinery Media is the first company in Asia to partner location-based social networking application Foursquare. Currently in partnership with several major media partners including HBO and Warner Bros. Entertainment, Foursquare now includes Refinery Media in its fast-growing mix of media and entertainment collaborators.

Refinery Media’s first multi-platform reality-based entertainment programme, www.SUPERMODELME.tv was introduced in 2009, featuring aspiring models going through a series of challenges for a chance to be crowned Asia’s next ‘IT’ girl. As a multi-platform experience that was driven by the Web, Mobile and TV, the format gave audiences three distinct viewing options with different layers of content. Viewers were engaged through multiple social media platforms and online traffic was driven to partners’ sites through the use of exclusive Hyperspot technology.

Foursquare is a location-based application for the iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Palm. With the application installed, users “check-in” at places such as malls, cafes, bars and restaurants. This not only works as a way of telling friends where a user is, but allows users to leave recommendations on where to go and what to do, in and around the area.

In the second season of SUPERMODELME.tv, Refinery Media’s tie-up with Foursquare opens up new opportunities for user engagement.

The collaboration between Refinery Media and Foursquare will feature tips and to-dos by the model contestants and celebrity judges of SUPERMODELME.tv. This turns them into content creators whom fans can follow and interact with. Through the reality-based episodes, Foursquare tie-ins with advertisers will not only heighten brand awareness; it will create instant brand visibility whenever a user checks in at a location near an advertiser’s venue.

The most exciting product of this collaboration is a location-based game, the first of its kind in Singapore. As Foursquare users roam the city, listed locations that they check-in to unlock badges aptly named, “Superstyle” and “Superconnected”. Unlocking these badges gives them exclusive partner promotions on the spot and takes them one step closer to a ticket to the SUPERMODELME.tv finale. All Foursquare users in Singapore will be able to take part in the location-based game and plans to roll it out neighbouring countries are being discussed.

“As the lines between digital media and entertainment continue to blur, our focus is to develop more creative ideas that will best harness social media tools and emerging technology to drive user engagement and interest. As such, we are thrilled to be the first in Asia to collaborate with Foursquare.” - Karen Seah, CEO, Refinery Media

“Foursquare is all about motivating users to explore the cities in which they live and visit. We offer brands the tools to lead consumers to do interesting things in those cities, rather than just suggest. For entertainment companies with consumers/viewers that have a deep affinity for the on-air brand, our platform becomes the perfect offline extension. Asia is certainly a huge opportunity for any company. Foursquare is excited to be working with a partner to help introduce our platform there.” - Tristan Walker, Business Development, Foursquare

Season two of SUPERMODELME.tv begins in October 2010.

Will mrbrown's post on Mr Tan Kin Lian's thermometer app "misadventure" promote technology ageism?

I am not ashamed to say I support Mr Tan Kin Lian as a presidential candidate because I believed in what he stood for. And when Mr Tan posted his "misadventure" with a thermometer app, I did shake my head in disbelief that he did that. Source:   http://www.mrbrown.com/blog/2013/07/we-could-have-had-him-for-president.html Thinking twice, there could be a possibility that Mr Tan misunderstood how this app work. Most  thermometer app take data from various weather stations to display the temperature on it. Yes, the technology savvy will do a #facepalm when they read the post and mrbrown's post demonstrated it perfectly. Wrote mrbrown , "Maybe the former Presidential-hopeful didn't realize he needed to upgrade to the Pro version of the app. Then his iPhone would not only measure temperature, it would also measure current PSI (PM2.5 included), tell you if you are having your period, and cook instant noodles. Good thing he didn't try to measure boil

How UOB's Paper Trail Amplifies IT Greatest Security Threat

UOB required you to do everything on paper. If you want to change your mobile number for your banking account with them or for your credit card, you need to fill up a form. Yet, this paper trail represented a potential security fail for the bank - Human Error. So a bitcoin expert walked into UOB to open a bank account. The bank employee had to print a form from a online pdf document to fill in this bitcoin expert's particulars. When it came to entering the bitcoin expert's email, that's when the forgotten art of handwriting was the most obvious of the digital generation. Wrote Robert Capodieci, My name is Roberto Capodieci, as most of you know. and my email address is very obvious to decode. It is not a p4l_l337_s0u1@gmail.com, but it is a more obvious roberto@capodieci.com, thing that, right after reading my name in the same form, should come out easy. Still, a data entry personnel of the UOB bank (or of a service provider the UOB bank uses) entered it as roberto

Singapore radio personality in "hot soup" for reporting train delays based on Tweets?

Update - Hossan Leong has commented on this post to say " I'm not in trouble pls don't blow this out of proportion. Let it rest. It's getting silly. Thank you for your love and concern and I apologize for any misunderstanding." ~  Hossan Leong. Hossan Leong, a Singapore radio personality for The Gold Breakfast Show on Gold 90.5, was censured today for reporting on train delays on the Circle Line because he based the information on Tweets, rather than waiting for the official reports from the Circle Line operator, SMRT.  It is, however, unknown if the "warning" came from Mediacorp producers or SMRT. Tweeted Hossan Leong ,  OK...I reported it on air and now I'm getting into trouble for it?? The CC line is DOWN rite? I did nothing wrong rite? The SMRT Circle Line was reported to be down this morning during peak hours and started as early as 7am. However, local news only received official statement was received by the mainstream media at about 9
