The Singapore journalists Facebook grapevine tells of a story of a young PR girl who called a IT journalist pitching for a story.
The IT journalist was too busy for the girl and told her to call his deputy editor.
The poor PR girl replied she didn’t know his deputy editor was and asked for the IT journalist to provide for his name and email address.
IT journalist was rather pissed off of the PR girl lack of knowledge of the industry who’s who.
Lesson learn here that if you are in PR, at least have the heart to read through the entire publication to know the names of the people writing for it.
Even if you don’t know who the person is, surely somebody in your agency should know. Ask them, not the journalist.
