It seems the Egyptian kidnappers, after throwing punches at the kidnapped Singaporean, were "kind" enough to bring their hostage to dessert. instead of dumping him in the desert.
The hostage, Vincent Toh, was leading a tour group in Egypt and "volunteered" to be taken hostage when his group was attacked by armed men.
