Kudos To Huawei 2 Year Warranty For P9 Series

When it comes to smartphones, I think I am jinxed. For my history of owning smartphones, every time it comes close to the end of the two year contract with my mobile service provider. This time round, it happened to my Huawei P9. All of a sudden, the LCD screen sort of decolourised. I thought it was a temporary issue but the decolourisation lasted for a few hours. Then the nightmare began. The touchscreen couldn't be touched. This made it the smartphone a brick. I thought the Huawei P9 only had one year of warrant. With my contract ending in mid-year, I thought I would have to wait it out till the contract ended and allowed me to buy a new phone under a contract. Luckily, a friend reminded me that the phone came with a 2 year warranty. So I decided to go to the Huawei service center, right smack in the center of the city, to see if my phone is under warranty and if Huawei would honour their 2 year warranty. Thankfully, Huawei isn't as popular as the Samsungs or App...

Happy Birthday Evernote - And why I use Evernote

Evernote celebrates its 5th birthday and those who use it can immediately agree that it has become their external brain. Evernote is like a notepad online and on steroids. Here are a couple of reasons. No pesky need to hit the save button. When you use Microsoft Word, you constantly need to keep reminding if you pressed the Control S button. If you don't press that occasional Control S and you accidentally quite Word, good luck to you. YMicrosoft Word may saved your draft, but sometimes, you really can't be so sure. Evernote syncs the note to their cloud server through quick intervals which are non-intrusive. If you are not online, it will just automatically update into the PC. No need to save documents as files When you save a Word document, you have to think of where to save it and what to name the file. Sometimes, you just save it to desktop and your desktop becomes cluttered with docs. Evernote, on the other, sees each note as part of a notebook and automat...

Windows Phone 7 is mobile sex ready???

Steve Jobs is violently against porn for the iPhone and iPad, but it seems Microsoft may have other ideas. Photo is from techcrunch.com . Original photo has since been deleted from the Flickr account of the Microsoft employee who took this photo. Photo was taken with a HTC Evo running on Android. This photo was part of a parade at Microsoft to celebrate the availability of the manufacturing version of Microsoft’s new mobile OS. Part of the parade also saw the funeral march of the iPhone and Blackberry as a taunt to signal the arrival of the iPhone and Blackberry killer. Strangely, Android wasn’t part of this funeral march.  While this float might have been in jest to Steve Job’s “no sex in iPhone or iPad”, it could lead to possible misinterpretation. Parents might choose the iPhone over the Windows Mobile 7 phone or Windows Mobile 7 users might be sterotype as mobile sex addicts. As such, it could lead for consumers to stay disassociated with the new Microsoft mobil...

Are Starhub MaxMobile Elite Users Getting What They Are Paying for?

(Update –ION Orchard Tests) I was at ION Orchard for an event and tested the 21Mbps bandwidth on my netbook. It was able to reach d/l speeds of 4000+kbps and u/l speed of 600kbps. That eliminates the configuration and hardware issues of the netbook as it is possible to achieve higher bandwidth. A friend from an IT pub told me that the further one get from the city area, but my test at an event in Raffles Place was quite bad yesterday.   (Update – Morning Tests) On PC 21Mbps Last Result: Download Speed: 1420 kbps (177.5 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 343 kbps (42.9 KB/sec transfer rate) We have detected your IP Address is 117.20.181.14 1Mbps Last Result: Download Speed: 1572 kbps (196.5 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 132 kbps (16.5 KB/sec transfer rate) We have detected your IP Address is 113.10.122.244 ---------------------------------------------- I just signed up for the Starhub MaxMobile Elite plan with the idea ...

QIK Video of Singtel launch of the HTC Android Phone in Singapore

Saw this on @ryuworks Twit of him doing a QIK at the Singtel launch of the HTC Android Phone in Singapore. SingTel now has monopoly over Apple iPhone and HTC Dream. In the earlier post I mentioned that Samsung is also going to launch Google Android phones in 2nd half of 2009. I predict that 2009 and 2010 will see the OS war in the mobile smartphone space. It is the sign of the times that the maybe 10 years ago, the war was for desktop OS. Technorati Tags: HTC Dream , Google Android , Singtel
