Tiger Airways abandoning Facebook? Angry fans join offspring Pages

Tiger Airways may have abandoned their Facebook Page with fans noticing that the status updates have been deleted to May 2010 and fans are no longer allowed to comment on it.   Is abandoning a Facebook Page with over 60k fans a good idea? Sure, there are complains but also those who compliment your Facebook Page. Could it worsen Tiger Airways affected image for abandoning 60k fans which is almost akin to abandoning passengers with the frequent cancellation of flights? A search on Facebook, however, resulted in the sprouting out of new Facebook Pages which look at attracting fans disappointed with Tiger Airways. AirAsia also have unhappy customers but so far it seems limited to just one group. Lesson learnt here is that as easy it is for Brands to start Facebook Pages, it would also be as easy for angry customers to start one too. The question is do you want to address this within your owned control page or just ignore it and let fan’s start their own Page...

Facebook has come under fire for privacy related issues. But it seems an unsolicited sms from one of the telco’s premium partner got a subscriber concerned about the privacy of his mobile number A Mr Ang wrote on Starhub Facebook Page that he was shocked to receive an unsolicited sms from eFusion reminding him that a premium sms service will be renewed for $20 if he didn’t send an sms back to to stop the service. The Bear Youtube video that cried wolf

Philips Electronics Singapore yesterday apologised for featuring a Youtube video of a “bear” let loose along Ulu Pandan Road. This Youtube video was part of a guerilla advertising campaign but send both the public and reverent authorities into a wild a goose chase for a missing bear. Dutch electronics giant Philips is under investigation in Singapore after a marketing campaign for a new shaver triggered a search for a wild bear. Philips issued a public apology after a fuzzy video of a bear-like creature was sent to a social-media website by a marketing firm on Wednesday, triggering a search by zoo officials -- armed with a tranquiliser gun -- and animal-welfare activists. The "bear" was actually just a mascot pretending to rummage through a rubbish bin in Ulu Pandan, a residential and school district with pockets of thick foliage. The same article also wrote that the Singapore Zoo and members of Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES)  went ...

Social Media KPIs–the quantity vs quality paradox

A friend asked about setting KPIs for one of the LinkedIn group that the department created to link to a corporate portal. The department has set up a LinkedIn page and are looking to use it to promote and drive members to their community portal. As such, the question posed was “What would be a good KPI measurement for this LinkedIn page? How about having two levels - # of members on the LinkedIn Page and # of signups at the community portal? Finally, what would be realistic target number? Is there any industry benchmark on the number of members a corporate LinkedIn page typically gets?” Given that this was a corporate B2B LinkedIn group, setting a generic number count as a KPI would be good for the ego but not for the productivity. As such, I advised the following: 1. Set KPI to the number of decision makers in the Group. As LinkedIn is more corporate and b2b than other social networks, I highlighted that it was important for the team to come up with a list of a who’s who of...

New Facebook Groups Good For Internal Communications

The New Facebook Groups that was recently launched was touted to be great for Facebook users looking to share information with a small number of friends privately rather than openly in public. However, with Taggo’s recent tie-up with NUS School of computing to partner with their students Facebook project with retailers, the new Facebook Groups was a godsend as a tool to communicate with these student groups en-mass rather than having to mass email to the participating groups. There are four categories of privacy in the new Facebook Groups and if you are concern of public looking at the content, you can set it to the highest level of privacy at Secret Group so only members can see the content and none of the members will be shown as being part of this group. The New Facebook Groups has allowed me to address the issue faced by some Facebook users who encounter the message below when activating the taggo me app on the retailers Facebook Page. "Taggo me cannot detect your L...
