Tiger Airways abandoning Facebook? Angry fans join offspring Pages

Tiger Airways may have abandoned their Facebook Page with fans noticing that the status updates have been deleted to May 2010 and fans are no longer allowed to comment on it.   Is abandoning a Facebook Page with over 60k fans a good idea? Sure, there are complains but also those who compliment your Facebook Page. Could it worsen Tiger Airways affected image for abandoning 60k fans which is almost akin to abandoning passengers with the frequent cancellation of flights? A search on Facebook, however, resulted in the sprouting out of new Facebook Pages which look at attracting fans disappointed with Tiger Airways. AirAsia also have unhappy customers but so far it seems limited to just one group. Lesson learnt here is that as easy it is for Brands to start Facebook Pages, it would also be as easy for angry customers to start one too. The question is do you want to address this within your owned control page or just ignore it and let fan’s start their own Pages.

Are SG telcos giving subscribers mobile phone numbers to premium partners?

Facebook has come under fire for privacy related issues. But it seems an unsolicited sms from one of the telco’s premium partner got a subscriber concerned about the privacy of his mobile number A Mr Ang wrote on Starhub Facebook Page that he was shocked to receive an unsolicited sms from eFusion reminding him that a premium sms service will be renewed for $20 if he didn’t send an sms back to to stop the service. Mr Ang first called Starhub hotline and they told him to call eFusion. When he tried the eFusion number, it was a non-working number. Further calls to Starhub only led to more confusion. Wrote Mr Ang on Starhub Facebook Page , 1. why am I getting this sms when I got no dealing wtih eFusion ? 2. I was told by Starhub CSC that their Premium Partner like eFusion has all the subscribers' phone numbers from Starhub. Why is this so and how is Starhub protecting our privacy ? 3. how is Starhub ensuring that their Premium Partners do not anyhow bill their subscr

The Bear Youtube video that cried wolf

Philips Electronics Singapore yesterday apologised for featuring a Youtube video of a “bear” let loose along Ulu Pandan Road. This Youtube video was part of a guerilla advertising campaign but send both the public and reverent authorities into a wild a goose chase for a missing bear. Dutch electronics giant Philips is under investigation in Singapore after a marketing campaign for a new shaver triggered a search for a wild bear. Philips issued a public apology after a fuzzy video of a bear-like creature was sent to a social-media website by a marketing firm on Wednesday, triggering a search by zoo officials -- armed with a tranquiliser gun -- and animal-welfare activists. The "bear" was actually just a mascot pretending to rummage through a rubbish bin in Ulu Pandan, a residential and school district with pockets of thick foliage. The same article also wrote that the Singapore Zoo and members of Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES)  went sear

Social Media KPIs–the quantity vs quality paradox

A friend asked about setting KPIs for one of the LinkedIn group that the department created to link to a corporate portal. The department has set up a LinkedIn page and are looking to use it to promote and drive members to their community portal. As such, the question posed was “What would be a good KPI measurement for this LinkedIn page? How about having two levels - # of members on the LinkedIn Page and # of signups at the community portal? Finally, what would be realistic target number? Is there any industry benchmark on the number of members a corporate LinkedIn page typically gets?” Given that this was a corporate B2B LinkedIn group, setting a generic number count as a KPI would be good for the ego but not for the productivity. As such, I advised the following: 1. Set KPI to the number of decision makers in the Group. As LinkedIn is more corporate and b2b than other social networks, I highlighted that it was important for the team to come up with a list of a who’s who of

New Facebook Groups Good For Internal Communications

The New Facebook Groups that was recently launched was touted to be great for Facebook users looking to share information with a small number of friends privately rather than openly in public. However, with Taggo’s recent tie-up with NUS School of computing to partner with their students Facebook project with retailers, the new Facebook Groups was a godsend as a tool to communicate with these student groups en-mass rather than having to mass email to the participating groups. There are four categories of privacy in the new Facebook Groups and if you are concern of public looking at the content, you can set it to the highest level of privacy at Secret Group so only members can see the content and none of the members will be shown as being part of this group. The New Facebook Groups has allowed me to address the issue faced by some Facebook users who encounter the message below when activating the taggo me app on the retailers Facebook Page. "Taggo me cannot detect your L

How to activate taggo me on the Facebook Page

Since the launch of Taggo in late September, we have bee visiting a couple of retailers who have, not only expressed interest in using Taggo, but would like us to install the taggo me app into their Facebook Page and the taggo pos into their PCs. Once the technicalities of identifying a fan at the retail store is over with, the retailers are now looking at the promotions to entice Facebook fans off the computer and into the store by way of incentives. The advantage of Taggo is that when you activate your taggo me app in one of these retailers’ Facebook Pages with your ez-link card or your preferred Tap and Go card, you don’t need to re-enter these details at another Facebook Page which has Taggo activated. All you need to do is click on the LIKE button of that Facebook Page and taggo is instantly activated for that Facebook Page. All you need to do next is to go to the store and tap to identify you as a fan. You can start by activating taggo me at http:///www.facebook.com/taggo

Facebook Rewards

The NFC and mobile publications are very excited about what Taggo is offering. Wrote maxatec-europe.com , Singapore based technology company, Taggo , have this month revealed their new point-of-sale service. Incorporating advanced POS technology, Taggo have established a method of sorting through each customer. This technology will identify customers who are Facebook fans of the store they are shopping in, or of the brand or product they are buying, then offer rewards at the point of sale. This platform can also offer brands the opportunity to entice Facebook fans off the computer and into the store by way of incentives. With social media showing no signs of waning any time soon, Taggo have taken the next logical and innovative step.

Thanking your virtual loyalty with real rewards

Paulaner Bräuhaus Singapore became the first microbrewery in Singapore to thank their fans on their Facebook Page by rewarding them with the availability to purchase SGD15 coupon for 0.5L of beer (normal price about SGD19, GST and service charge included) for Oktoberfest 2010. When the promotional status was up, fans naturally got excited. “You mean you can use your ezy link card to get discounts at the bar? That's great. Now I know why I'm a fan,” said Nick Cocks , a fan of Paulaner Bräuhaus Singapore. “Now I know why I’m a fan” is a powerful statement. Why is it that Facebook users want to LIKE a Facebook Page?  Why is it that brands and retailers start Facebook Pages? When I posed this question to a publication who started a Facebook Page why they started a Facebook Page, the answer I got was “monkey see monkey do”. So if the race is all about get the highest number of LIKES through advertising or work done in creating content  in order to get more LIKES, the boss

Groups get a new focus from Facebook

From the Facebook conference “LIVE” stream, the main changes focused on Groups. As summarised by James O'Brien , “New facebook feature: Group chatting. Basically group of people can chat on a live feed, replaces the need for Inbox threads. Can see this working great for housemates, sports teams etc.” Mark Zuckerberg, however, answered that brands should continue on Pages rather than invade groups. Other announcements include The capability to download information that includes profile info, friend list, wall archive, photos and videos, notes, events and messages. A new dashboard for application privacy. This will allow users to manage permissions that an app has over time, which also includes revoking an app’s ability to post to Facebook User’s wall after initially granting it permission.

Malaysia blogger discovers major glitch in Maxis online billing platform that accesses random accounts

When blogger Arysan decided to access his phone bill online, he discovered a major glitch in the telco’s online platform that led him to random accounts of other subscribers whenever he logged into his account. Wrote Arysan , So today, i was logging in my maxis account and i found that it has logged me on a different account. And each time i logout, and re-login, it will bring me to another new account. And i’ve been seeing other people’s emails and telephone number and also be able to browse their phonebook that they backed up with maxis. THIS IS A HUGEEEEE breach of privacy. I tweeted about it and got re-tweeted by some of influential people. And later got a phone call by Caroline (their social media rep i think) demanding me to remove my screenshot due to privacy. Ok, i admit that i screenshot the phone number and email without masking it, so fine, my bad. I will now re-post the screenshot whilst masking some part of the number and names k?
